The ESI Scheme was introduced in the State Gujarat in the year 1964. The Scheme
was first introduced to Ahmedabad city and its suburbs and later on extended to
most of the industrial centres like Baroda, Surat, Rajkot, Ankleshwar etc.. Keeping
in view of the better administration
of the Scheme and the convenience of the beneficiaries/employers,
Gujarat Region was trifurcated in the year 2000, 1. Regional Office, Ahmedabad 2.
Sub Regional Office, Vadodara and 3. Sub Regional Office, Surat.
The activities comprise implementation of ESI Scheme, co-ordination
with state Government, Inspections, Surveys and enforcement, collection of Revenues,
Administration of Branch Offices, Cash Offices (Pay Offices) lying under their Jurisdiction
and delivery of cash benefit to ESI
Beneficiaries. The Regional Office, Gujarat is headed by Regional Director whereas Sub Regional Offices by Joint Directors Incharge who act
as the Grievance Officers also.
