The Employees’ State Insurance Scheme was introduced in on 4.10.1964.
The Scheme was made applicable to
Ahmedabad
City
and its Supurbs in first phase and was later on extended to most of the industrialized
centers, such
as
Vadodara
,
Surat
,
Rajkot
,
Jamnagar
and Ankleshwar. As on date, the Scheme stands implemented at 35 centers. The total
number of Insured Persons covered at Present are 2,69,745 (as on 31.3.2006). The
State with its rapid industrial growth offers scope for further implementation of
the scheme to many other largely industrialized centers which were developed in
the recent past.
Around
1.5 lakhs industrial workers can be brought under the protective umbrella
of ESI Scheme. The scheme has been implemented at Gandhinagar w.e.f. 1.3.2001 and
at Bajwa, Chhani, Sihor and Vartej w.e.f. 1/6/2006.
Centers like Koyali, Atul, Changodhar etc. are under active consideration
of the State Government for implementation of the scheme. Two sub Regional Offices
i.e.S.R.O
and Sutra have been started in this region on
20/10/2000
and
13/11/2000
.
Implementation of Scheme to the extended city limits of Ahmedabad is under
active consideration of the Government of Gujarat.
The matter regarding implementation of scheme in Educational and Medical Institution
is taken up with the State Government for early action.
The phased programme for implementation of the Scheme
for the year 2006-07 and 2007-08 has been submitted to Hqrs. Office with copy to
Labour Department, Government of Gujarat. This office is in constant touch with
the Government of Gujarat (Labour Dept.) for implementation of the scheme in phased
manner.

From the data furnished above giving composite picture of revenue income, medical
expenses, cash benefits and administrative expenditure, income and expenditure expenses,
it may be seen that on an average Rs 30.10 crores are surplus per year and the revenue
income is increasing every year.

SETTLEMENT OF PDB/DB CASES
